Philadelphia Will Do

Ironic Philly Crime Spree Continues

I’m always a little wary of using the word irony, since I don’t really quite have any idea what the hell it means. I mean, I do, but anytime somebody anywhere ever seems to say something is ironic, someone says that’s not really irony. Wary of looking even stupider than I usually do, I try to avoid using irony unless it’s something like Oedipus Rex, where smart teachers have told me there is irony when he has sex with his mom or whatever.

But now that this has happened twice, I think it’s time to call this a full-blown ironic crime spree, even if there’s a chance irony only refers to old plays English teachers have told you are ironic. Last week, a peace rally in West Philadelphia turned violent.

And last night, another anti-violence rally had a shooting outside it, this time in Nicetown.

Philadelphia police at a community meeting Wednesday evening on Germantown Avenue, suddenly found themselves on the scene of a shootout just outside the building in Nicetown.

The captain was working an evening shift as part of the commissioner’s response to violent crime in the city.

It was just after 6:30 when shots rang out outside the meeting hall. Some attendees fell to the floor. But Captain John McCloskey and officer Vince Laspina rushed outside, virtually into the middle of the gun battle on a busy Germantown Avenue.

Next time somebody asks me how I’m doing my part to stem the tide of violence in this city, I’ll just answer honestly: By not organizing any anti-violence rallies.

Giving negros freedom is the real irony. All through history all they ever do with it is turn whatever place their allowed to roam into a dangerous violent jungle.

  2. Mighty Mike O. Says: Apr 22 6:49 PM

Stan: Amen, brother. You have written the truth, politically incorrect as it may be viewed. These people, and I might add the Central American peasant immigrants, do nothing but make noise, deteriorate whatever neighborhoods they invade with their spray paint and garbage strewn all over, and bring senseless violence and criminal activity with them.
As far as subsaharan Africa goes, there is not one significant invention that ever came out of there.

The real problem lies in their refusing to assimilate into our culture.

  3. Shaking My Head Says: Apr 22 7:57 PM

Wow… Stan and Mike, you two are two pieces of work. You almost make me ashamed to be white. Do the rest of us a favor and crawl back under your rocks. If you’re locals, no wonder Philly has such a great name for race relations. If you came here from Fark, you make me ashamed to be a Farker.

  4. Slappy Joe Says: Apr 22 10:22 PM

So… what’s your explanation for the fact that blacks just can’t escape these social ills, Shaking? The Japanese Americans have mysteriously come out ahead of even the white ones, a mere 60 years after they were locked in concentration camps waiting for FDR to send them into the ovens. Why haven’t the blacks done the same, 140 years after their Holocaust ended?

I guess it will just have to remain a total mystery for ever and ever, because it’s racist to even think about it.

  5. Realist. Says: Apr 22 10:42 PM

Coming from Miami I can definitely see the point, it’s not just Philly. Miami was once a beautiful city, full of friendly, successful, honest people.

Unfortunately the blacks, and immigrants have wrought crime, drugs, disease, and destruction upon it.

It won’t be long before the Statue of Liberty is stolen piece by piece and sold as copper scrap. God bless America.

  6. rev.paperboy Says: Apr 23 12:00 AM

Wow, are you guys handing out white sheets and hoods or do the other knuckledragging bigots have to bring their own? No wonder there are race-relations problems in Philly and the rest of the United States with dumbasses like you running around. Where were your ancestors from Realist? Are they Cherokee or Sioux or were they filthy disease-ridden immigrant land thieves? Slappy Joe, you’ve obviously taken a few too many shots to the head if you think FDR was planning to send Japanese-American detainees to the ovens - get someone to read a history book to you sometime. Stan, I’m afraid there is probably no hope for someone as bone ignorant as you, but I can only hope you’re not raising kids with such bigoted, idiotic views.

  7. Truth Says: Apr 23 12:03 AM

*Sniff* these comments are so true.
All blacks do is complain that they have to “fight to live” but all they’re actually doing is fighting over property they don’t own (their grandparents do) and aspiring to be rappers and have tons of hos. Maybe they need Moms and Dads instead of crack whores and prison dudes.

  8. A. Nonnymous Says: Apr 23 3:12 AM

Right or wrong, I note that Shaking and Paperboy have no actual refutations, facts, or any argument whatsoever. Simply ad hominem attacks and PoCo fingerpointing. If you’re so superior to the “knuckledraggers,” and so, well, right, you need to demonstrate that by something better than a putatively more sophisticated NEENER NEENER NEENER.

Its called “questioning authority.” And telling “truth to power.”

    Well? What you got?

  9. brian Says: Apr 23 3:31 AM

So instead of complaining about different races, let’s be active in doing good to help the less fortunate. Donate to the Philly chapter of the United Way, for example. Charities like the United Way help turn would be thugs into doctors and would be druggies into home-owning proud Americans.

  10. Slappy Joe Says: Apr 23 9:45 AM

“Charities like the United Way help turn would be thugs into doctors and would be druggies into home-owning proud Americans.”

Do they? Africa receives more charity per year than the United Way has handed out in its entire existence, yet somehow it’s better known for thugs and druggies than for doctors and homeowners.

Another mystery that can never be solved!

  11. Slappy Joe Says: Apr 23 11:50 AM

For those who care to learn the truth about race relations in America, Malcolm X not only discovered it forty years ago, he wrote his autobiography on the subject. Be sure you get the original version (titled “In Search of Identity”), not the Spike Lee version with all the “racist stuff” (in other words, the truth) edited out.

  12. Strangenoz Says: Apr 23 4:47 PM

    I’d Hit it!….hehehehe

  13. Unashamed Says: Apr 23 10:05 PM

Actually, I have a profound disrespect for a some black people. Notably, the ones who play off the “slavery” grudge. Of course, they forget to mention that the English were not the original slave owners. Wealthy Africans sold their own negro slaves to us, and we then turned it into a lucrative trade. However, that has long been abolished and none of them are affected by the slave trade today. I was extremely angry when a black man told me I should be ashamed for being part of a race that enslaved his forefathers. I was saddened when a noted professor said that negro men and women suffer from PTSS… Post Traumatic Slavery Syndrome. I’m not kidding - apparantly genetic memory carried the shock and degradation of slavery down through the generations even unto the free black man of today. So instead of being forced to admit that the large number of black crime is their own damned fault, they have their ever present scapegoat of the white man to blame for their ills for a long time to come.

I’m not racist, I’m just sad that any race of man could be this stupid and petty. Yes, slavery happened. Yes, it was a terrible thing. I might have had slave owners (not to mention witchfinders, I happen to be a distant descendant of Hopkins) in my bloodline, but that isn’t anything to do with me. Same with the black descendant of the slave. He was never affected by slavery. As for the payouts they’re still demanding? I say the only fair compensation to offer them is free passage back to wherever their forefathers came from originally.
