Philly Love #61: Nicole Tranquillo

022307tranquillo.jpg

Last night, Nicole Tranquillo — the UArts student on American Idolwas voted off. Now, I don’t really care a lick about Idol, but I do feel bad for the local girl, so I figured the least I could do was make this post about her.

It’s not really all bad, though: Since she’s been eliminated early, we (1) don’t have to hear about her anymore and (2) we won’t hear about her enough to grow sick of her and hate her! Really. Remember how much everyone was sick of Justin Guarini and Anthony Federov Fedorov by the time they were voted off? Exactly. Nicole, you’re probably upset about losing, but, really: You just dodged a bullet here.

Update, 3:37 p.m.: Jesus, people.

I was never sick of hearing Anthony Fedorov!

He is still my favorite American Idol and will always be! His golden voice has been recently heard more and more!
Anthony Fedorov will be joining the cast of the longest running musical in American history of Broadway in the leading role of Matt. He will be touring in Europe for the members of Air Force of America during the summer, he’s been chosen as the National Spoke Person of the American Society for Sarcoma and will be the singer at the National Gala in NY for the benefits of the Sarcoma Foundation. He is going to tour around the country with the other Idols in the next two months. His long waiting CD will be realized sometimes this year.
For the young boy of 21 that’s very ipmressive resume!
And just to repeat again I was never fed up of Anthony at American Idol, rather opposite I was watching the Show only because of him!

You can visit his fans’ web site, where more than 6000 Anthony’s fans have been following every step of their Idol.

  3. Joanne Says: Feb 23 12:00 PM

I certainly was not sick of Anthony Fedorov. He gave the best performance out of all of them on the night he was voted off. If Vonzell did not turn on the waterworks, she would have been the one to go.

  4. Luz Says: Feb 23 12:29 PM

Shame on you for saying that about Anthony Fedorov.

First of all you do not even know how to spell his name. It’s FEDOROV, not FedErov.

The boy has a GOLDEN voice. I can’t wait to see him on the tour and on the Broadway show. And I don’t mind to travel the long miles just to hear him sing.

  5. Asia Says: Feb 23 12:37 PM

Uhhhh don’t know what ur talking about…But I was never ever sick of Anthony Fedorov!!!!!

D-Mac, I don’t know who these interlopers are, but I’ve got your back. At one point in 2005, I wrote, “Federov would do well on the British version, which goes for asexual teenybopper boys like Will Young, but he’s utterly outclassed here.”

  8. Caitlin Says: Feb 23 1:08 PM

Sad that Adam B. doesn’t know talent when he hears it and yet still thinks of himself as smart enough to make a comment. Get someone who knows about singing and compare his vocals to most of the others that season. They may of had the flash and fans, but he had the raw and pure stuff that really matters. He had trouble with song choice and control, but his abilities were amazing. If he were on this season, he’d blow everyone but a few girls out of the water. Broadway (well, okay, off-Broadway) realizes his talents, so maybe you should take another look. And Adam, A-Fed has more class than you ever could.

To “D-Mac” (I hope most of the fans who call you this are better mannered), I do see your point, but I think the reaction to Anthony was largely from the masses repeating the comments everyone else said because they were afraid of actually having a voice for themselves- see Adam as an example. Anthony did have a lot to work on, but he HAS worked on it- if you can, check out some of his work. The Fan Club being mentioned has a lot of great links.

P.S.- To any fans not on the website, the off-Broadway I mentioned is The Fantasticks, which Anthony will soon be starring in as the role of Matt. If you can check it out, do!

  9. chris Says: Feb 23 1:41 PM

Wow people, the guy’s just a random singer who isn’t famous at all. Get over it.

  10. dvls Says: Feb 23 1:42 PM

I never got sick of Anthony Fedorov either!!!!! In fact, the longer he was on the show the more I grew to love him. And I think it’s despicable for you to diss your home boys this way! If you’re going to write for a Philly publication, you could at least support the locals!

  11. maya Says: Feb 23 1:49 PM

Anthony is beside Clay the best vocalist ever appeared at American Idol!
Since the time he was at AI his voice has become even more amazing and powerfull. Anybody who doesn’t admitt this is either tone deaf or plain jealous!
Anthony has a great future ahead of him and I am always going to support him.

  12. Usually Quiet Observer Says: Feb 23 2:16 PM

D-mac, I’ve got your back too. Seems Anthonyfanclub members are rabid members. They must be bored.

  13. kim Says: Feb 23 3:15 PM

    Bored?
Yes, you are right,we’ve been bored with the article like this one.
    But never bored with Anthony!

  14. Adam B. Says: Feb 23 3:19 PM

If he “had trouble with song choice and control” and “did have a lot to work on,” you prove my point as I was only referring to his work on Idol itself, which is the last America heard from him.

  15. Mary Says: Feb 23 4:31 PM

Obviously, the people making the remarks that Anthony Fedorov is just a random singer who isn’t famous haven’t been following his career or been to any of his performances since Idol. I have been to his performances and his voice is better than ever and he has improved so much. I have never heard anyone sing the “National Anthem” as well as he does. Hopefully, you won’t be so closed minded that you’ll miss out on his songs. His voice has certainly brought a lot of us much pleasure and happiness!

  16. Jemima Says: Feb 23 4:33 PM

I think Anthony was one of the top five vocalists out of all the seasons so far. Just don’t understand why people want to put him down. Confusing to me. Maybe jealousy??

  17. Peter Says: Feb 23 4:44 PM

Anthony Fedorov finished Schubert’s “Unfinished Symphony.” He once rescued an original copy of the Declaration of Independence from a burning home, along with seven kittens.

If you don’t think he’s the greatest human being who ever lived, you’re worse than Simon Cowell and Josef Stalin COMBINED!

  18. Debby Says: Feb 23 4:50 PM

Believe me, no one was sick of hearing about Anthony Fedorov. I have heard him on many occasions and he just keeps getting better and better. Perhaps, you ought to catch up on his career - it is really taking off.

  19. dmac Says: Feb 23 5:13 PM

Okay: When Anthony Fedorov — thanks for the correct spelling, by the way — was on American Idol, we got updates in the news media about him pretty much every other second. I was tired of this, leading me to “hate” him, much like I “hate” Barbaro, Anna Nicole Smith, et cetera.

But now I have no opinion on him other than that he has ridiculously dedicated fans who will respond to any perceived slight. I guess… that’s… good?

  20. Teresa Says: Feb 23 5:46 PM

Adam and any other Anthony detractors:
I think you should speak for yourselves because there are plenty of us who will NEVER be tired of hearing about Anthony F-e-d-o-r-o-v. For future reference, the way I just spelled it is the correct spelling of Anthony’s last name.
I for one want to hear as much as possible about Anthony Fedorov and I absolutely adore his singing.
I have also met Anthony and he is the sweetest person you would ever want to meet, not that it sounds like any of you would know the difference.
Even as enchanting as Anthony is, I doubt even he would be able to break though your bitter persona. Yes, for your information, it does come across in your writing.
If Anthony is not your taste musically, that is fine and I can respect that, but he is my American Idol and very dear to my heart. I do not take kindly to the likes of you trashing him like this.
Anthony can sing for me anytime he wants, and I will listen to him. Not only is he a terrific singer whose vocals have gotten even stronger and better since he was on Idol, he is a terrific person.
I suppose you have not heard about his work with the Sarcoma Foundation of America, have you? Or that he will be touring Europe in April to sing for the Air Force Troops there and that he was asked to do that?
In case you are wondering, I am EXTREMELY loyal to Anthony, and yes, I do have a life outside of Anthony also. Contrary to the seemingly popular and unfounded notion that his fans are teenage girls, I am well beyond my teens and happily married.
Since you seem to feel so badly for Nicole being voted off last night because she is the hometown girl, it seems to me that you would be a bit more supportive of Anthony since he is also from Philly.
A successful career in the entertainment industry takes time to make, as anyone who has ever attempted anything like that would know. I doubt you would know anything about that at all though, would you, Adam? What about the rest of you who are so eager to criticize Anthony?
Broadway is a VERY big deal, as Season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino will attest. She has landed a lead in the Broadway production of ‘The Color Purple’. Diano DeGarmo and Constantine Mouralis have also appeared on Broadway, exposing them to a whole different block of fans.
What have any of you ever done musically?
Have any of you been asked to sing on Broadway?
Have any of you ever been on American Idol or the equivalent?
Have any of you ever written anyone so sweet a thank you note that they know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it did indeed come from you and not from someone else, and they will treasure that note forever?
Have any of you overcome doctor’s dire predictions that you would not live, then not speak; an emergency tracheotomy on the operating table because you stopped breathing, a language and cultural barrier in a foreign country, and then to top everything, show up on the most popular TV show in the United States, sing for 35+million people every week, and make it to the top 4 out of over 100,000 people on the strength of those people voting to keep you on the show, and then to be voted second favorite performer on the subsequent tour?
Have any of you who are so opposed to Anthony ever had people go to extraordinary lengths just for a couple of minutes of your time?
Have any of you ever had people go and see a tour just because you were in it?
Have any of you touched someone’s heart who was themselves going against the odds to heal from something and given them the hope that it can be done just by your life’s example?
I didn’t think so. Anthony has done all this and much more.
Have any of you even sung in front of an audience without them cringing because you were hurting their ears and praying that you would shut up soon so their ears wouldn’t hurt anymore?
When any of you can boast of having done even a few of these things especially in only about 22 years on this earth, then maybe I will consider your viewpoints as it concerns Anthony Fedorov, my American Idol and in my opinion the best male vocalist I have ever heard, as well as a person far too rare in this world. Maybe, although you may not want to hold your breath.
Until then, I don’t want to hear it.

  21. Adam B. Says: Feb 23 6:35 PM

Teresa, I haven’t done those things, but nor have you — so I don’t see what right you have to opine on Mr. FedOrov either.

But let me tell you what I have done. I am a dynamic figure, often seen scaling walls and crushing ice. I have been known to remodel train stations on my lunch breaks, making them more efficient in the area of heat retention. I translate ethnic slurs for Cuban refugees, I write award-winning operas, I manage time efficiently. Occasionally, I tread water for three days in a row.

I woo women with my sensuous and godlike trombone playing, I can pilot bicycles up severe inclines with unflagging speed, and I cook Thirty-Minute Brownies in twenty minutes. I am an expert in stucco, a veteran in love, and an outlaw in Peru.

Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon Basin from a horde of ferocious army ants. I play bluegrass cello, I was scouted by the Mets, I am the subject of numerous documentaries. When I’m bored, I build large suspension bridges in my yard. I enjoy urban hang gliding. On Wednesdays, after school, I repair electrical appliances free of charge.

I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, and a ruthless bookie. Critics worldwide swoon over my original line of corduroy evening wear. I don’t perspire. I am a private citizen, yet I receive fan mail. I have been caller number nine and have won the weekend passes. Last summer I toured New Jersey with a traveling centrifugal-force demonstration. I bat 400. My deft floral arrangements have earned me fame in international botany circles. Children trust me.

I can hurl tennis rackets at small moving objects with deadly accuracy. I once read Paradise Lost, Moby Dick, and David Copperfield in one day and still had time to refurbish an entire dining room that evening. I know the exact location of every food item in the supermarket. I have performed several covert operations for the CIA. I sleep once a week; when I do sleep, I sleep in a chair. While on vacation in Canada, I successfully negotiated with a group of terrorists who had seized a small bakery. The laws of physics do not apply to me.

I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and my bills are all paid. On weekends, to let off steam, I participate in full-contact origami. Years ago I discovered the meaning of life but forgot to write it down. I have made extraordinary four course meals using only a mouli and a toaster oven. I breed prizewinning clams. I have won bullfights in San Juan, cliff-diving competitions in Sri Lanka, and spelling bees at the Kremlin. I have played Hamlet, I have performed open-heart surgery, and I have spoken with Elvis.

But, okay, I’m not as cool as Anthony FedOrov.

  22. amar Says: Feb 23 6:55 PM

Come on, Adam, you don’t need to copy somebody else’s essey to look great!
    Calm down and stop “fighting”, you can’t win this “war”;
there are too many Anthony’s fans out there.

  23. nonna Says: Feb 23 9:25 PM

I was gonna jump on here and defend Mr. Fedorov, but Theresa and the other Feds did it so well, I won’t expand more on that. Just to say, in regards to dmac saying “I guess that’s good”….damn straight it is!!!and to Adam B:You obviously have a gift for words and humor…..now go and use it for the good of mankind!!And BTW, I’m dying to know what you guys all think of Season 6 Antonella Barba’s SINGING?

  24. Teresa Says: Feb 23 10:31 PM

I don’t think you know with whom you are dealing.
I owe you no explanations about what I have or have not done musically or otherwise, but I WILL say I have done plenty in the musical arena and will continue to do so, and I have dealt with things and had experiences in life that people twice and three times my age will never have.
By the way, you don’t impress me much, in the words of Shania Twain and no, you are NOT as cool as Anthony Fedorov.
Maybe in a million lifetimes, you might possibly get a clue but I would not hold my breath on that if I were you.
As I said before, until you have done anywhere near as much as Anthony Fedorov has in his nearly 22 years of life, I don’t want to hear it.
Amar has the right idea. Take the hint.

  25. Margo Says: Feb 23 10:47 PM

I would like to go on record as saying that I also never tired of Anthony Fedorov. I cannot get enough of his gorgeous voice. But I like a male singer who sings lyrically, something that is not too popular today with all of the “moaner type” singers on the radio today. And yes, I like Clay Aiken, too.

  26. Usually Quiet Observer Says: Feb 23 11:22 PM

Omg now the Anthony Fans are suffering from delusions of grandeur with this latest post from Teresa! Ohhhh, I’m scared now and I want my mommy. What a joyride they must all be.

Did I say I was scared yet?

And hats off to D-mac and Adam! Way to roll ‘em up and toss ‘em.

  30. Lynn Says: Feb 24 1:02 AM

Just because I love inflated comment wars:

I officially became sick of Mr. Federov, Fedorov, what’s-his-name when he sang the National Anthem before a Phillies game (before that, I wasn’t sick of him because I didn’t know who the hell he was). The start of the game was held up because the wannabe Idol wouldn’t leave the freaking field because he was too busy waving, posing for pictures, and signing his no doubt impeccably-spelled name for his legion of (and by that I mean approximately 6) fans.

  31. Siny Says: Feb 24 2:51 AM

So, Lynn, if he only had 6 fans, why did it take him so long to pose for pictures and sign his name ? BTW, I saw the video from the game and the crowd went crazy for him. He certainly seemed to have more than 6 fans in attendance.

If you guys cannot do any better than this, I am out of here because I am really getting more bored by the minute with your puny attempts to put down a wonderful person like Anthony Fedorov, not to mention the pathetic attempt at an attack leveled at me here.
Know this: No one or nothing will ever change my opinion or feelings about Anthony Fedorov. He is one of the most gracious people and celebrities ever and if the Anthony detractors cannot see that at the very least, then I am so very sorry, but the lack of realization sense is your loss and I cannot help you, although I have certainly tried.
You are a lost cause, and I am REALLY bored with this conversation. YAWN!!!

“So, Lynn, if he only had 6 fans, why did it take him so long to pose for pictures and sign his name ? BTW, I saw the video from the game and the crowd went crazy for him. He certainly seemed to have more than 6 fans in attendance.”

Because he was taking his ridiculously sweet time in an effort to prolong his experience? Can’t say I saw the video, but I can tell you that pretty much everyone in the sections immediately above the opposing dugout were booing and yelling for him to get the hell off the field. If that somehow translated on video as support, that’s strange.

I’m not saying he didn’t do a decent job on the Anthem (cause quite frankly, I can’t remember whether he did or not–I’m sure he wasn’t any worse than anyone else), but sing your song and go sign and pose and whatever else on the concourse.

  38. siny Says: Feb 25 4:33 AM

Is not it up to the management to direct him to where he can “sign and pose” ? He had many fans there - so what was he supposed to do, ignore them ? And he did much more than a decent job on the Anthem - just check out YouTube. No wonder he is now singing at Madison Square Garden.

  39. Jill Says: Mar 1 12:45 AM

    Anthony is awesome!!

  40. luv_4_anthony Says: Mar 1 12:24 PM

Why must you spend time putting down a decent, caring person like Anthony, just because he was on American Idol and he happens to have a fan base full of an amazing amount of people who all want to see him succeed in his career? What did he ever do to you? Anthony sings because he cares about singing, and he stops to sign autographs because he cares about every single one of his fans. If you think he should be condemned for putting others before himself, then you need to stop and rethink your life.

  41. Reality Checker Says: Mar 1 4:41 PM

Quoting the famous words of Gitta’s post at the top of this page: “You can visit his fans’ web site, where more than 6000 Anthony’s fans have been following every step of their Idol.

    http://www.anthonyfanclub.com

Well, I went over to that website and gasp, omg, I’ve discovered that the stated 6000 fans are no more than about 20 real fans wearing masks as if everyday were Mardi Gras and the other 5980 are Spammers or Porn people trying to get new customers. Ha! Now I know Anthony fans are wearing blinders and are so out of touch with reality. There is even a post over there about being under spam attack and another about the fake member IDs being removed from the membership number tally soon. Now if that’s not a smoking gun I don’t know what is. You’ve got to know losing those numbers, or fans as Gitta is calling them, is going to hurt. lol

And, to add insult to injury, the head honcho from another website was forced to join over there so he could make a post telling the crazy Anthony fans to stop sending him hate emails just because Fedorov’s song fell from a #1 spot and they want the “prince” recrowned and placed back on his pedestal even though he doesn’t have the votes to win the #1 spot. All, of course, just because they said so! Demanding, ballsy little twits they are. lmao

What a bunch of crazies! With behavior like that, who could or would like Fedorov? Now I understand why I shake my head and say, “Poor kid, that Fedorov.”

Maybe Fedorov is psychic and knew what lay in store for him so he lost AI on purpose. Again, I shake my head and say poor Fedorov. You finally get my sympathy vote.

I am not going to be involved in the fierce discussion here between those who love Anthony and the person who doesn’t/I assume, that only one person has been hiding behind all the “hate” posts/,but just want to say that in this year of AI not even one boy is as good as Anthony.
    I miss him very much!

  44. Patricia Says: Mar 22 1:04 AM

Anthony is marginally talented. He’s going to theater, I understand, so maybe he can find a niche there. He way overstayed his welcome on his season of AI, though, for sure!

  45. AIFan Says: Mar 25 1:12 AM

If Anthony was not talented, he would not be picked for a leading role in an off-Broadway production of The Fantasticks. It’s a large singing part and you have to be a very good singer to get it.
