Head To Head: Knox Vs. Brady

You’ve seen the ads, many times. Many, many times in fact. Yes, while Dwight Evans has gotten into the TV game as well, but he hasn’t taken the look-how-depressing-my-early-life-was route that Tom Knox and Bob Brady both have.

Both the ads of Brady and Knox celebrate the candidate’s working-class roots, hoping you forget that currently these are two rich guys. But their ads… damn, are they sad. After the jump, let’s do a head-to-head and see which one is more depressing.

Well, this is a tough one here. Let’s do Knox first: He immediately talks about growing up in the projects and how he heard his mother crying herself to sleep because she didn’t have enough money to feed him and his brothers. Damn. I mean, think yourself: If you can remember a time when your mother was crying, isn’t that one of the saddest memories you have?

Brady, on the other hand, goes the other route. In this role he is the parent, and he is sad because he can’t pay for the heat to keep his children warm. This is going the other role, and I’d say it might be equally effective. I would assume that not having enough money to pay for heat for your children is equally sad as hearing your mother cry.

Anyway, I think I have some, ah, dirt in my eye, and I need to go. We’ll call this one a draw. But the first candidate to debut an ad with puppies and babies and upbeat music — “Yakety Sax,” anyone? — will go up a notch in my book.

My favorite part of that Bob Brady ad is when he says something about how kids aren’t allowed to go outside and “play on the step.” Who the hell wants to play on a step anyway?

TO CHRISTINA, WHAT PART OF THE CITY DID YOU GROW UP IN, POSTING A COMMENT LIKE THAT, I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF YOUR NOT FROM THE CITY AT ALL,EVERYONE CAN RELATE TO PLAYING ON THE STEPS!

  3. ANTHONY Says: Feb 25 4:47 PM

I AGREE WITH ELISA, THERE WASN’T ONE DAY WHEN WE DID NOT PLAY ON THE STEPS! IT IS A SHAME THAT PARENTS REALLY HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THEIR KIDS PLAYING ON THE STEPS , IT SHOULD NOT HAVE TO THAT WAY, CHRISTINA YOU REALLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE HELL YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT KEEP YOU COMMENTS TO YOURSEILF!

I really, really miss the old days and playing on the steps. When you didn’t have alot of money for toys, the kids were very resourceful and came up with all kinds of games playing on the steps. The little boy next door to us used to jump off his steps pretending he was “Mighty Mouse” remember that cartoon. “Here I come to save the day…..” What fun memories. If you didn’t play on the steps Christina, you’re probably from the suburbs.

Why do I get the sneaking suspicion that Pattie, Elisa and Anthony (probably all the same person are all posting from the Market Street HQ of Brady…I’ve never heard such enthusiam for that wonderous childhood playground that is “the steps.”

Why aren’t more people pro-Evans? For the first time in my life I regret being an independent - I wish I could weigh in at the polls for that guy…

Please, Democrats of Philadelphia, don’t vote for the old political machine (i.e. Brady) or the candidate with zero experience whose commercials I’m sure turn the stomach of Gov. Rendell (claiming credit for the city’s turn around financially - please).

who remembers stepball? what a great game. thanks for bringing up those memories of playing on the step.

  7. Dwight Says: May 9 11:11 AM

playing on the steps was fun and i have to agree with everyone else that it is obvious that this christina chracter did not grow up in the city of philadelphia
