Barbaro’s Losing Streak Continues
Yes! In case you’re wondering, that rare bit of excitement and happiness for me stems from this news: Barbaro didn’t win any awards at the annual horse racing awards show. The Eclipse Awards did award honors to Barbaro’s owners, the New Bolton Center (of course) and Barbaro’s jockey, but the horse lost 271-21 to Invasor for Horse of the Year and 210-56 for Three-Year-Old of the Year. Not only did Barbaro lose (just like in the Preakness) he lost really, really bad (just like in the Preakness). After the New Bolton Center and Barbaro’s owners won their special award, co-owner Roy Jackson said: “This award is not really for us, but it’s for Barbaro.” That’s a lie. The award is for the New Bolton Center and the Jacksons. If it had been for Barbaro, it would have been addressed to Barbaro. Hell, even the local media won awards! The Daily News‘ Dick Jerardi won for a story on Barbaro and the Inquirer’s Mike Jensen won for… for a story on Barbaro’s doctor, Dean Richardson. And Barbaro couldn’t capture a single prize.
