Swing Dancing For Manhattan-Style Elevators
A 1996 Penn alum was looking to donate money to the school for new elevators for the high rise dorms on Superblock. Upon finding out it would cost millions of dollars, he decided to do the next best thing: Go to Facebook.com and get students to sign up for his group. 1996 alum Peter Kuperman — apparently learning from the great internet whores of the past — says that if 5,000 people join his group, he will not kill any kittens and will instead donate $50,000 for a study about better elevators for the high rises. (He says failure is “not an option.”) And how did he get the idea for new elevators? Simple: Swing-dancing enthusiasts. (It was big just after he graduated, I guess.)
Gee, who would have thought Penn kids would want Manhattan-style elevators. Facebooking for new elevators [Daily Pennsylvanian] |

I think the elevators in Penn High Rises are better than in Washington Heights or Harlem
I can’t understand this story at all.
WTF are manhattan-style elevators? i’m so confused…
in MY day, we walked up 10 flights in the Drexel dorms after 10 beers, and we LIKED it!
Manhattan-style elevators are red, of course. New England-style are white.
