Yeah, yeah, a day late. It’s going to be a short edition, too, with a couple of older threads in it, as it’s now Friday, and we’re three weeks into this IRPSYDHT thing, which means it’s time for yours truly to get a little tired of it. Hell, I haven’t even sent last week’s Thread! Of! The! Week! winner Mark B. Cohen his prize yet.
But, I’ll soldier on, continuing to read Phillyblog so you don’t have to. (Maybe next week, I’ll even make up a logo!) Come with me after the jump.
• Raj Bhakta Remains On Track To WIN!!!: Ahh, yes, Raj Bhakta clearly is on track to win. (Hey, this thread even has a Philadelphia Will Do sighting!) And why is Bhakta on track to win?
I continue to be impressed by the upstanding way that Raj Bhakta is running his campaign, while his rival Allyson Schwartz is neither here nor there. And it’s been many many years now since NE Philly has seen anything like this! For the first time in decades we’re about to get a leader of our own rather than some hack crony assigned to “represent” us. And I don’t know about anybody else here at this blogsite, but I think that’s pretty exciting! All I can say is: Way to go, Raj!!!
Awesome. Yeah, totally on track to win.
• “Man-pris” AKA 3/4 length pants: This thread is a discussion of man-pris. (Sigh.)
Recently I was driving past Tiki Bob’s and they had their rather elaborate dress code posted outside. Essentially in very big letters it spelled in great detail the idea that if you wore any sort of popular hip-hop style clothes you would not be allowed into the bar. I’ll leave the debate about the politics of this for someone else but I was ammused by the new term “man-pris” the sign used to describe the very popular 3/4 cut pants length amongst the hip-hop set in this town. [...]
Talking with a friend about it, they proposed the explanation that the 3/4 pants cut is an influnce from Islam where there is some tradition tht says the hem of your pants can’t touch the top of your shoes. Interesting theory I thought and certainly a lot of Af Am Muslims in this town seem to sport the 3/4 cut. But then I thought of all the NOI guys in suits where the dress pants most certainly touch the tops of their shoes and come to think of it Oakland has its fair share of Black Muslim sects as well. In Oakland Airport, for example, Your Black Muslim Bakery operates a concession in each of the gates. The Your Black Muslim Bakery guy who sold me a bran muffin before I got on my SW flight to Philly was wearing full length pants.
Oh, it gets better from there, as the debate heads into … something:
Now… everyone… prepare yourselves. Islamists, close your internet browsers.
I am about to make a very denegrating comment. So, cover your eyes… hide the children, and lock the doors .
I think the black muslim sect is a farce and I equate their legitimacy of this format of Islam to about how most people regard this guy when it comes to the legitimacy of his church’s representation of Christianity:

There, I said it.
Oooh, I bet Louis Farrakhan is pissed!
• She finally did what we’ve all dreamed about!: This thread is about Susanna Foo’s altercation with the meter maid. Nothing too fantastic, except this line:
What restaurant does she own? I might’ve been able to witness this through the window at that time, if only I had a window to witness things through… I’ve also been looking for a good Chinese restaurant in that general area. Does her restaurant serve decent food… assmuing I don’t make her angry?
• 7th district Dem nominee Dan Savage: extremely underqualified?: Somewhere in this discussion, the talk changes to blogging and politics (surprisingly not from Mark B. Cohen). And Chris Brennan comes up again:
Did someone say F.B.I.? Oh, just FUMO. It is VERY interesting that bloggers with an opinion about Democrats are continually harassed. They have even employed Chris Brennan from the Daily News to “investigate” bloggers real identities with these views. One blogger has even accused him of cyber-stalking. I can understand taking a picture of someone’s house, but searching their name on the internet in an attempt to reveal an identity - that is weird.
Wait, what? I covered this before, but I didn’t know people still believed this. A writer private messaging an angry message board (sorry, “blog”) poster asking if he’ll comment for a story under his own name for a story is somehow worse than taking a photo of someone’s house? Guhwha?
• Thread! Of! The! Week! This one is easy. For me at least. Congratulations to zur for this thread:
Should the NE break away?
So..
Just for fun. I wanted to see how many NE posters still think we should “break away” from the City of Philadelphia.
We all know why we can’t…the “work for the city live in the city”
But ignore that for a second. Say you could. Would you want to become “Liberty County”
Oh, please. Where’s the Salvatore family when you need them?
Today’s I Read Phillyblog So You Don’t Have To was particularly bad, but you shouldn’t blame the contributors, 14th Windiest State and a lot of caffeine.

No, no- I blame myself.
