New Puppet Causing Controversy
The Inquirer reports today on a new Sesame Street puppet who is (naturally) causing a bit of controversy. No, the puppet doesn’t freebase on the show or have a mouth like a sailor. No, she’s a girl puppet, and a fairy, and that’s upset some people, saying she stereotypes girls. One of those upset is Susan Linn, the co-founder of something called the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood:
Because, really, an asian girl who’s good at math? That wouldn’t be a stereotype at all. A rude welcome for Abby, new girl on ‘Sesame Street’ [Inquirer] |

How the hell would you know if a puppet is Asian?
This idea just has too much potential for hilarity…
