ABC Does Extreme Takeover Of Northeast

032306construction.jpg Crews from local construction firms and from ABC will be in Bustleton this week, doing round-the-clock construction on a new house for the show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. They’ll be knocking down William and Carole Py’s rancher and putting a two-story, four-bedroom home in its place.

It’s a really sad story: The Pys are raising three children who were left orphaned when their parents died 14 months apart in the late 1990s. They were worried that the asbestos and lead paint in the house could harm the children. And so they’ll be getting a bigger new house with an in-ground pool!

The next-door neighbors are three developmentally delayed men in a home managed by SPIN, Special People in Northeast. They said they were happy for their neighbors.

But this being the Northeast, not everyone is happy. Ellen Gray of the Daily News writes:

But at least one of the Pys’ neighbors, who wouldn’t give his name, complained bitterly that “this thing wasn’t done right” and claimed that if the community had been notified in advance, many would have opposed it.

Heh, that’s funny. So this unnamed neighbor is actually stupider than the developmentally-challenged men. Eh, I guess that’s not all that surprising.
