While the SEPTA strike is over, Pennsbury teachers continue to walk the picket line in Bucks County. Today is the 15th day of the walkout. They can only strike until Nov. 21.

The two sides will met again Tuesday at an undisclosed location. Last night, 300 people attended a Pennsbury school board meeting, which is about 300 more than usually attend:

At least two dozen people stepped up to the microphones at the meeting. Many urged the district to stand firm and not give in to the teachers’ demands. Thomas McManus, Jr., whose wife is a substitute in the district, was one of the first:

“You take a page out of President Reagan’s book and you fire ‘em all and you hire the substitutes who are only making 18-thousand dollars a year, and you pay them $40,000 a year and they would be very happy.”

McManus then suggested the board take another page out of Reagan’s playbook by “funneling money to the Contras with profits from an Iranian arms deal.”
