Singing parrot upsets top Pa. senator (this entry is joke free)

102605parrot.jpg Yesterday, in Harrisburg, the state’s highest-ranking senator, Robert Jubelirer, verbally berated Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll.

Why, you ask? Oh, well, you know, the usual: Jubelirer was upset that Knoll addressed state senators, asking them to listen to a yellow parrot Groucho, who was perched in the visitors’ gallery. (At left is a photo of another yellow parrot, presumably not Groucho.)

The bird — and, really, Mario F. Cattabiani gets major props from me at least for in-depth reporting here — then sang “Camptown Races,” “How Much is that Doggie in the Window,” and “Alouette.” (Though, Cattabiani notes, there was some confusion in the gallery as to what the bird was actually singing.)

Jubelirer’s spokesman says he was upset because only business should be conducted on the floor. And Knoll snapped back, saying that Jubelirer approved the bird’s visit in advance. (The bird belonged to the Pittsburgh area National Aviary. He was there to get funding.)

Sen. Joseph Conti of Bucks County, well, he was just stumped. “It was a break in our traditional decorum, and I’m still trying to draw my own opinion whether it was appropriate or not,” he told the Inquirer.

Now that’s entertainment politics.

Oh, so this entry is *intentionally* joke free, as opposed to the other ones. (Just wanted to beat you guys to it.)

There’s a joke in here about republicans and parrots and the president… but… eh. The post is funny enough alone.

That’s a macaw, not a parrot. You also almost slandered an innocent one.

P.S. I bet Alycia Lane would be allowed on the floor wearing a bikini (I certainly would allow her on mine).
